About the Conference

Look beyond the lipid report

A lipid result is one part of a much bigger clinical picture. Family history, diabetes, kidney health, treatment response and the realities of daily life all influence the next decision.

The 1st Annual Lipid Society of Pakistan Conference is an opportunity to bring these conversations together in Karachi. Its purpose is to connect scientific understanding with care that is thoughtful, timely and relevant to clinical practice in Pakistan.

Why Attend

Three reasons to be in the room

01

Make sense of the evidence

Consider how current research and evolving guidance can inform risk assessment and lipid management.

02

Bring everyday questions into the discussion

Think through the decisions that arise when treatment response, tolerability, affordability and follow-up do not fit neatly into a guideline.

03

Connect across specialties

Exchange perspectives with colleagues whose work touches the same patient at different points in care.

Scientific Focus

The evidence behind the next clinical decision

Cardiovascular risk

Understanding the wider clinical picture.

Inherited lipid disorders

Recognising risk across generations.

Treatment in practice

Bringing evidence into everyday care.

About the Conference

A shared focus on better lipid care

The 1st Annual Lipid Society of Pakistan Conference will take place on 10–11 October 2026 at Pearl-Continental Hotel Karachi.

The Meeting

Where current evidence meets the questions of clinical practice

The meeting provides an occasion to consider the role of lipids in cardiovascular health and the practical challenges of recognising and managing lipid disorders.

The proposed scientific direction connects current evidence with the questions faced in clinics, hospitals and research settings. Particular attention belongs to earlier risk recognition, inherited lipid disorders, treatment decisions and continuity of care.

The Pakistan Perspective

Local context is not a footnote. It is the conversation.

Research from the second National Diabetes Survey of Pakistan documented lipid abnormalities across urban and rural populations. This makes local context an essential part of the conversation: which assessments are accessible, how treatment can be sustained and where follow-up can be improved.

A useful conference should give space to these questions and to research generated within Pakistan. International evidence becomes more useful when clinicians can discuss how it applies to the people and healthcare settings they know.

Welcome Message

Dear Colleagues,

Every day, we make decisions that can influence a patient's cardiovascular health for years to come. Lipid care is part of that responsibility, and it benefits from continued learning and honest discussion.

I invite you to join us in Karachi for the 1st Annual Lipid Society of Pakistan Conference. Our aim is to create a useful meeting for colleagues who want to examine the evidence, share clinical experience and ask what better lipid care should look like in our own healthcare settings.

I hope you will bring your questions, your observations and a willingness to learn from one another. I look forward to welcoming you on 10–11 October 2026.

Scientific Programme

The evidence behind the next clinical decision

Lipid management brings together risk assessment, laboratory interpretation and treatment choices that must work for individual patients. The proposed programme explores these connections through clinically relevant questions and current science.

Programme announcement

The detailed scientific programme will be published here following approval. Session titles, timings, faculty and presentation formats will appear with the final schedule.

Proposed Scientific Themes

Eight questions worth two days

01

Understanding risk beyond a single result

LDL cholesterol, non-HDL cholesterol and the selective role of apolipoprotein B. Explore when additional information may change the assessment of cardiovascular risk.

02

Lipoprotein(a) in clinical practice

The significance of elevated Lp(a), the role of testing and how to discuss inherited risk with patients and families.

03

Familial hypercholesterolaemia

Recognising clinical clues, identifying relatives who may need assessment and supporting appropriate referral and continuing care.

04

Making lipid-lowering treatment work

Statin therapy, assessment of reported intolerance and the role of additional treatments. Consider the evidence alongside adherence, cost and access.

05

Triglycerides and complex lipid disorders

Interpreting raised triglycerides, investigating secondary causes and distinguishing cardiovascular risk management from the priorities of severe hypertriglyceridaemia.

06

Lipids within cardiometabolic care

The overlap with diabetes, obesity and chronic kidney disease, and the value of coordinated care across specialties.

07

Prevention after an acute coronary event

Lipid treatment during hospital care, appropriate intensification and the transition to longer-term follow-up.

08

Care that patients can sustain

Practical nutrition discussions, shared decisions, follow-up and locally feasible approaches to sustained treatment.

Proposed Conference Flow

From understanding risk to everyday care

An indicative two-day direction, subject to scientific committee approval. Session times, chairs and speakers will be announced with the final schedule.

10

Saturday, October 2026

Understanding risk and interpreting the evidence

  1. Opening and conference context: the questions lipid care needs to address in Pakistan.
  2. Guideline discussion: the 2026 ACC/AHA dyslipidaemia guideline and 2025 ESC/EAS focused update, with attention to local applicability.
  3. Laboratory and risk interpretation: LDL-C, non-HDL-C, ApoB and Lp(a).
  4. Inherited lipid disorders: recognising familial hypercholesterolaemia and considering family assessment.
  5. Clinical discussion: lipid management after an acute coronary event.
11

Sunday, October 2026

Applying the evidence in everyday care

  1. Treatment decisions: response, tolerability, appropriate intensification and affordability.
  2. Complex presentations: raised triglycerides and lipid care in cardiometabolic disease.
  3. Patient conversations: nutrition, long-term treatment and follow-up.
  4. Local research and clinical experience, if a submission programme is approved.
  5. Closing discussion: practical priorities that clinicians and institutions can take forward.

Learning Objectives

What you should leave with

Following participation, delegates should be better able to put these into practice.

Proposed educational objectives. Any CME accreditation or attendance documentation will be stated explicitly once confirmed.

  • Interpret common lipid findings within an individual's wider cardiovascular risk profile.
  • Discuss when Lp(a) or ApoB assessment may add clinically useful information.
  • Recognise features that warrant assessment for an inherited lipid disorder.
  • Compare management options in the context of evidence, patient preferences and local access.
  • Identify practical opportunities to improve follow-up and continuity of lipid care.
